My sixth curly cut
August–September 2024
My sixth curly cut was August 9th, 2024. I don’t have a ton of photos from August as I was vacationing with my family and mostly didn’t bother doing my hair.
In late August I ordered a cheap dupe of the Bounce Curl Volume EdgeLift Brush; I’d been burned by several expensive brushes in the past that did nothing for me (I’m looking at you, Denman brush…) and wanted to something similar without spending $40. I was absolutely blown away.
The definition was amazing, but the best part was how long each style lasted. I could go nearly a week without refreshing my hair at all as long as I used a good hard-hold gel and slept in my silk bonnet. AMAZING. After using the cheap brush three times I ordered both the Volume & Definition versions of the actual Bounce Curl brushes. The real brushes are definitely better; not only are they better made (no uneven plastic seams to catch & tear the hair), but they create better tension while still gliding through the hair.

My second wash & style using the cheap dupe brush—even better! I used the LA Looks gel for this wash.
September 11, 2024
This was day SIX of my third wash & style with the cheap brush (+ the Kenra hard-hold gel), and I didn’t refresh once in those six days. I just slept in my silk bonnet, shook my hair out in the morning, and pinned it back/up as desired. Absolutely unbelievable. By this point I’d ordered both of the actual Bounce Curl brushes and was waiting for them to arrive.

My first style with the genuine Bounce Curl Volume EdgeLift Brush (Click for full details). It provides much better tension. Also—today is exactly 2 years since my first curly wash attempt!
