I’ve searched for books on at-home cosmetic formulation and really found very few and those that I did find looked lacking. Marie’s book is a treasure! There are clear directions on formulating and blending colors, different options to choose from if you prefer vegan recipes, and she makes YouTube videos to correspond with things in her book so you can see what she’s actually doing. Her website, Humblebee and Me, has oodles more recipes for you to make and valuable information you need for formulating your own cosmetic and personal care products. If you’re looking into making your own products, look no further! Marie’s book and website are all you need. But be warned….this will become a serious addiction!<\/p>\n

Best Foundation Ever<\/h2>\n

This book is worth buying for the foundation recipe alone! She’s got this chapter on foundation where you first blend a big batch of you colored powder and then you turn that into foundation (liquid or powder), concealer, and lightweight airbrushing powder. Then you can make highlighter, bronzer, and blush to match. It was so much fun and so easy. It also looks and wears better than anything I’ve ever bought in the store. Ever. I used to buy the high end $80 foundation. This is better.<\/p>\n

If you’re interested in making healthy skin care products and you are a beginner, start here!<\/h2>\n

I have tried recipes from this book as well as from her blog (Humblebee and Me) and they all turn out great! The recipes in this book are a bit simpler than on her blog so this is a great staring point for beginner DIYers like myself. I went the DIY route because I just couldn’t find the right skin care products for my sensitive skin and wasn’t interested in going the $220 moisturizer route. I am so glad I did as this has been quite a fun journey getting to know the ingredients, why particular ingredients are in certain products, etc. My skin has never looked better! If you are thinking of going the DIY\/healthy skin care product route, I highly suggest starting with this book and then jump to her blog and YouTube videos!<\/p>\n

Humblebee & Me <\/em>History
<\/em><\/h1>\n

Humblebee & Me<\/em> was founded in late 2011, and began with a pretty scattered mission\u2014to simply share the things Marie made. This ranged from photos of her dog, to curry, to historical costumes, to lotion. Over years of writing and interacting with her readers, Marie found her true passion and began to write exclusively about do-it-yourself bath, beauty, hair, and skincare products.<\/p>\n

Marie now shares two new recipes a week on Humblebee & Me<\/em>, as well as two new videos on the Humblebee & Me<\/em> YouTube channel<\/a>. Her recipes have gained a reputation of being effective and successful; carefully tested and well-written to guarantee good results, even to people who are new to the hobby.<\/p>\n

The “Me”<\/h1>\n

Marie Rayma is a graphic designer and the creator of HumblebeeAndMe.com<\/a>, the go-to place for real DIY skincare and makeup that works. She has diplomas in organic skincare and organic haircare formulation from Formula Botanica, and a Bachelor of Design Honours from York University. Her work has appeared on GoodHousekeeping.com<\/a>, WomansDay.com<\/a>, Mother Earth Living magazine, Willow & Sage magazine, and Saje.ca<\/a>, and her first book, Make it Up: The Essential Guide to DIY Makeup and Skin Care<\/i>, is all about creating your own cosmetics from scratch, and was released at the end of 2016 from Running Press to excellent reviews. She lives in Calgary, Canada, where she spends her days making messes in the kitchen and taking pictures of them.<\/p>\n

Marie has taught workshops on making your own lip balm, lotions, body butters, and lipsticks with Market Collective, Beakerhead, SAIT, and Windy Point Soap Making, and appeared at the Next Big Thing conference in Calgary as part of the From Blog to Book panel with other published authors like Julie Van Rosendaal and Tom Babin.<\/p>\n

Marie also travels internationally to speak at conferences and colleges, including Mother Earth News Fair events across the USA and the 2019 Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetics Guild Annual Conference.<\/p>\n
