I’m obsessed with creating my own skincare and hair care—lotion, shampoo, eyeliner, you name it.

Understanding how ingredients and products work keeps me up at night (in a good way, I swear).

I started making my own skincare products back in 2010 when my cheap student self decided she was done paying $5 for a tube of lip balm.

I spent about $50 on ingredients and promptly made a ginormous batch of lip balm that used up all my ingredients and positively reeked of wet sheep (dangit, lanolin!).

Stinky start aside, I kept at it.

I launched Humblebee & Me in late 2011 to share the things I was making with my friends & family (thankfully my creations smelled a lot better by then).

In the years since I’ve:

• Shared over 1000 free formulations (!)
• Earned two diplomas from Formula Botanica (a Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation and a Diploma in Organic Haircare Formulation)
• Written a book!
• Teamed up with Bramble Berry to develop and launch their hair care collection, including formulating their Luxe Hair Mask Base
• Spoken at live events around the world (furthest from home so far: Melbourne, Australia)
• Adopted the very adorable Lottie (she’s a Cocker x Cavalier King Charles spaniel and has strong [negative] opinions about baths)
• Started a YouTube channel and grown it to over 250k subscribers
• Discovered I have wavy hair
• Been featured as “Maker of the Month” with Bramble Berry and Bulk Apothecary
• Hosted Humblebee & Me meetups all over the globe to connect fellow makers: London, Vancouver, Sydney, Prague, Dublin, Melbourne, Seattle, Auckland, Asheville, and more!
• And, best of all: taught thousands of people how to create skincare products they love.

I know making your own skincare products is empowering, exciting, and downright fun. There’s nothing quite like the joy of giving a friend a handmade lip balm that becomes their all-time favourite, or creating a lotion that works better than anything you’ve ever bought at the store (and for a fraction of the cost).
